money exchange
JDH asked:

Will be on a business trip in mainland China and am wondering how I will exchange US currency for local money? Do they have ATM machines all over? For some reason I think NOT. Do I exchange before I leave US. Money changer at airport? Change money at local bank in China? Any suggestions will be helpful. Thanks

I have been living in Shanghai and before that Beijing (10 years), it is very easy to use your ATM card in the big cities, I with-drawl money at Citibank and the Bank of China, there is a charge of course for international usage, but, it is better than bringing wads of cash over with you, also, make sure you tell your credit card company and bank that you will be traveling here and using the cards, I did not and they shut my card down for safety reasons, it was a pain getting in touch with them and getting it back up, if you just bring cash you can exchange at the Bank of China, remember to keep your exchange receipt, b/c you need it when you exchange back into USD, also you will need your passport when you exchange, I think it is better to use your ATM, it will give you RMB of course, you should also be familiar with the way Chinese money looks , check out site below
